Our Junior Summer Technique & Skills Intensive wasn’t simply four days of dance. It was four days of watching young dancers begin to understand why movement works—not just how to copy it.
From July 20th through July 23rd, forty incredible dancers filled True Dance Potential every morning from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Dancers traveled from all across Long Island with one goal in mind: to become better technicians.
What unfolded over those twelve hours was something we’ll never forget.
We Didn’t Want More Skills.
We Wanted Better Understanding.
Most dance intensives introduce dancers to dozens of different tricks and combinations.
We intentionally chose a different path.
Instead of overwhelming dancers with more material, we slowed everything down.
We spent four days diving deeper into just six jumps and six turn executions—breaking each one down, rebuilding it, refining it, and repeating it until dancers weren’t just performing the movement…
They were beginning to understand it.
That philosophy is the foundation of every TDP intensive. We believe dancers improve through understanding, repetition, coaching, refinement, and ownership—not simply by learning more skills.
Seven Coaches. One Mission.
One of the things that made this intensive so special was watching seven educators work together inside one room.
There were no “my students.”
No “my group.”
Every coach coached every dancer.
Every correction mattered.
Every question mattered.
Every breakthrough mattered.
That level of coaching allowed every dancer to receive individual feedback throughout every class instead of getting lost in a crowded room. It created an environment where dancers were constantly learning, adjusting, and improving together.
Watching Confidence Grow
One of the most rewarding parts wasn’t seeing cleaner pirouettes or higher jumps.
It was watching confidence grow.
Monday, dancers were learning.
Tuesday, they started trusting themselves.
Wednesday, fewer reminders were needed.
By Thursday, many of them were correcting themselves before one of our coaches even had the chance.
That’s what real learning looks like.
